The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to medieval recreation, focusing on the period from 600 to 1600 AD. Although most members chose to re-create cultures from northern and western Europe, there are many who participate with re-creating cultures from Persia, Asia and eastern Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Our “royalty” hold courts at which they recognize and honor members for their contributions to the group.
Within the Society for Creative Anachronism lies a Kingdom, graciously ruled by the King and Queen. The Kingdom displays exceeding prowess in the arts, sciences and on the fields of battle. It is upright in honor and unparalleled in beauty. It encompasses the modern regions of Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. It is the Kingdom of Calontir
Within this Kingdom lies a noble Barony, fairly ruled and honestly kept under the watchful eyes of the Baron and Baroness. Here the ideals of the Society flourish. It encompasses the modern region of Des Moines and central Iowa. It is the Barony of Coeur d’Ennui
Within this Barony lies the Canton of Axed Root, encompassing Ames, Iowa and neighboring towns. Small in size but distinguished in accomplishment, it is here you have arrived.
