SNOW!

Wow. Over the last 4 days, Zhangjiagang has received a record amount of snow. We’ve heard varying reports from different sources, but the general consensus is that this is the most snow ZJG’s seen in over a decade.

SNOW!

SNOW!

The city was grossly unprepared to deal with this much snow. Neither the government nor the population had any idea what to do about it. Keep in mind, in an average winter here there is no snow accumulation at all. Most of the population quickly got into the spirit of things. Snowball fights and snowmen abound.

SNOW!

Some people, however, seem unable to grasp the concept. Watching fashionable ladies trying to wear smooth-soled high heel shoes in icy slush is quite impressive. Many people were still riding their two-wheel bikes through the snow (with predictable results).
SNOW!

With tree limbs down all over town, the roads department has its work cut out for it. And not a single snow shovel in sight, let alone a snowplow.
SNOW!

Our normal mode of transportation was out of commission as well.
SNOW!

And I wouldn’t want to drive in this anyway; the drivers are even more dangerous than normal. On the 15-minute walk to school, I saw 1 full-on car wreck and 2 near misses. I’ll walk, thanks.

How many shovels should I send? :-) You might still be there in 10 years when it snows again.

I’m so glad you guys have power! The news here keeps showing hundreds of army guys shoveling highways over there. And I thought it was bad I had to shovel my driveway……….
